State of Play 2026: Legacy, Thrills, and Big Guns – PlayStation Starts Strong

The State of Play 2026 did not do things by halves. For over an hour, Sony Interactive Entertainment laid out a clear vision for the PlayStation 5: 2026 will be a year that speaks to players' memories while looking straight to the future.

PlayStation isn't just trying to surprise. It's trying to consolidate. To remind us that great franchises are not relics. They are foundations. And this 2026 edition of State of Play demonstrated this with a rare balance between cult comebacks, ambitious new iterations, and well-placed tributes.

Among the announcements, ranging from big blockbusters to unexpected surprises, we saw Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Ghost of Yōtei Legends, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Pragmata, and of course several in-house announcements like the God of War trilogy remake and the 2D game God of War: Sons of Sparta, all alongside the already anticipated titles Rayman Remaster, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Silent Hill: Townfall and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2.

And naturally, we watched with particular attention. Because several of the games presented are now *drumroll* part of the Shop!!

Rayman returns, and with a bang!

Rayman
is platforming in its purest form: clear, precise, rhythmic, and demanding without ever being punitive. This remaster doesn't betray the franchise's DNA; it respects it. It modernizes without distorting, refines without simplifying, and fluidifies without betraying the original spirit. It reminds us why this series marked an entire generation of players.

In a market saturated with sometimes unnecessary reboots, seeing Rayman return with coherence and elegance is frankly reassuring. It's the kind of project that proves you can bring a classic up to date without losing its soul. And yes, we are particularly proud to offer it in physical form with the Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition!

The Belmonts resume the hunt

Gothic atmosphere, frantic 2D action, meticulous exploration
: Belmont’s Curse clearly feels like a return to basics. We're talking about an episode that fully embraces the saga's legacy while bringing it a modern and controlled direction. Not a static tribute. A true continuation.

What emerges from the first revealed sequences is a clear desire to return to the essence: rhythm, tension, precision. Castlevania isn't trying to become something else. It's trying to become itself again. And for fans of demanding and solid Metroidvanias, everything is in place to make it one of the year's standout titles.

Silent Hill: turning the flashlight back on

If there's one franchise whose return was highly scrutinized, it's Silent Hill. Townfall confirms that the universe doesn't rely solely on nostalgia. The approach seems more psychological, more oppressive, more introspective. Less excess, more unease.

Silent Hill has always been about atmosphere, silence, and slowly building tension. And Townfall seems to want to reconnect with this identity, relying on a more diffuse, more disturbing, more lasting fear. If the execution follows through, 2026 could mark a key step in the franchise's rebirth.

Metal Gear, a video game monument

Metal Gear
is not just a cult series. It is a pillar of video game history. Bold writing. Cinematic staging. A vision that marked an entire generation.

With the Master Collection Vol. 2, the work continues: making these works accessible, complete, and respectfully preserved. For players who experienced them upon release. For those discovering them today. And for collectors who wish to keep a physical record of these monuments of the medium.

Beyond the titles, this State of Play 2026 tells us one essential thing: video games embrace their history. We no longer seek to erase the past to rush towards the next trend. We build upon it. We restore. We continue. We extend.

2026 promises to be solid. Dense. Exciting. And we will be there to support this year as we always do: by championing physical releases, highlighting strong franchises, and remaining true to what has driven us from the beginning. The State of Play has set the tone. The rest will be played controller in hand.
