Description
Check out the Joystick Jazz: The Blueshift Bigband Plays Iconic Video Game Hits soundtrack on vinyl!
Flashback: It’s Friday night. You and your friend have stocked up on pizza, Coke, and an assortment of highly processed cheese-flavored snacks. You’ve just returned from the rental store with an armful of games. You rush down to the basement, tune the TV to channel 3, and get ready for… a night of jazz covers?
Okay... OK... so maybe that's not exactly how it happened... But as you probably know, at iam8bit we are experts in the art of remixing and reviving nostalgic ephemera in new and unexpected ways. That's why we are thrilled to present to you this compilation of jazz interpretations from the very talented Blueshift Big Band.
These musicians are seriously good, playing familiar tunes from Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie, Sonic the Hedgehog and more with a decidedly magical spirit, as if they came from a bygone era, before video games even existed. A smoky club, elegant outfits and the energetic antics of a multitude of instruments having a blast: it's like Gatsby, only cheesier. You'll absolutely fall in love with the Blueshift sound. (That's a non-legally binding promise!)
This collection is pressed on high-quality, 180gsm green vinyl for the best possible audio experience - also, because back then, that's all there was, so we're keeping it real. Plus, you'll get a digital download of the entire album, perfect for adding a jazzy touch to your mobile devices. Wrap it all up with a gorgeous Saul Bass-inspired artwork by iam8bit's super pal Mark Borgions, and you've got a package that's worth more than its weight in game night snacks.
