A CLASSIC CONCEPT, A NEW ANGLE: Under Defeat is a vertical scrolling shooter where you control a helicopter capable of moving in eight directions. The game offers a streamlined experience, with only two buttons (fire and bomb), making it easy to pick up, but difficult to master.
What sets it apart from other titles in the genre is its rotation system: when you turn, your shots are directed slightly to the left or right, allowing you to adjust your strategy using different attack angles.
You also have access to a small optional unit, resembling a satellite, which fires independently. To charge it, however, you must release the fire button for a certain period, creating a tactical dynamic rarely seen in such an intense shoot 'em up.
Players can also have fun exploring a level as one of the many enemy monsters in the monstrous challenge mode. And finally, the game has been enhanced with the addition of several new levels!
NEW FEATURES
An arcade game is very different from a game you play at home, and Under Defeat has received many additions since its release in arcades in 2005. The New Order mode uses a more modern 16:9 format, the game's textures have been refined, and four soundtracks are available.
Among these, you will discover a brand new soundtrack by the legendary composer Shinji Hosoe, known for his work on Ridge Racer, Tekken, Street Fighter EX, SuperSweep, and many other titles. Of course, you can also rediscover the original experience by playing Under Defeat in its classic arcade version. It's up to you to choose how you'll have fun with this concentrate of explosive action!
A DIVE INTO THE PAST
Under Defeat is a true classic of the genre. The game developed by G.rev first appeared in Japanese arcades almost twenty years ago. Over time, it has been released on different platforms.
It was notably released on Dreamcast in 2006, long after official support for the console ended. This 2024 edition is the ultimate version of the game, including all previous content, carefully ported by veterans of the genre.
AN ENDLESS WAR
Under Defeat does not immerse you in a completely implausible science fiction universe. On the contrary, it offers a (generally) realistic vision of a futuristic past. You play as a helicopter pilot involved in an interminable war between the Empire and the Union, a fierce struggle that has lasted for more than ten years.
Both belligerents are exhausted and have suffered heavy losses, but all hope of peace seems illusory. Will this destructive conflict ever cease? It's up to you to play to find out!
